History of JROTC:

The Seaside High School JROTC programs was first instated in 1985 with the help of the now retired school counselor, James L. Rucker. The program first started with one SAI and one AI, MAJ. Jack Pugh and SGM. John Fernandez. In 1987 CSM Eugene Street joined the staff of army instructors. In 2004, MAJ. Pugh retired and was replaced with a 1SG Alex Saldivar and in 2006 SGM Fernandez also retired and was replaced by the now current SAI, COL. Chuck Hurd.

Since 1988 our Battalion has been honored with the Honor Unit with Distinction (HUD). In Fall of 2003, the battalion scored a 96.5% out of 100, enabling the unit to maintain its status and keep the HUD. In November of this year, our battalion will undergo yet another Formal Inspection.

The JROTC SPARTAN Battalion is also a large part of the Monterey Bay area. Since 1986 Seaside High's JROTC has been involved in numerous community events ranging from Color Guard performances to cadets marching in city parades.
